Reviews are still coming in from my advanced reader group! Spire and Stone is finding people to love it, and I am thrilled! I’ve loved this book for a lot of years, and it’s so exciting to finally be able to share it with people who are connecting with it. Four days left!
I love so many things about this book.
First, it is a new story. I haven’t read this before, it is different than anything I’ve read, and I can’t predict it. I recently started a series, and by reading the first book I predicted it out to the 4th book. Not so with Spire and Stone! My brain needed something new to chew on.
Next, the characters are complex. So many books, including many bestsellers, have flat, one dimensional characters that have the personality of a selfish raisin. They are annoying and cheap. Geiger’s characters are complex and changing. We see character development in this first book, and we have already done a deep dive into Viggo’s psychology.
Speaking of Viggo, I wouldn’t wear it, but I would definitely vibe with a shirt that said “I ❤ Viggo.” Who on earth doesn’t love a deeply flawed and haunted main character? Viggo is often stuck trying to choose a lesser evil, and although he has been through so much, he is a deep feeler and tries to do the right thing. He is willing to take the downfall for his choices. I want to know if Viggo ever finds peace.
I also hope to learn more about Silas Thorne! Who is this man who seems to respect slaves?
After I read Spire and Stone, I found myself at the library, staring at the spines of many fiction books and feeling… disappointed. Why was I disappointed? I was looking for something new. Everything seemed old and tired. I was looking for Spire and Stone’s sequel.
